State Department Orders China Consulate Closed

Move taken due to allegations that China is spying on Americans.

The State Department announced on Wednesday that it had delivered orders to the Chinese Consulate in Houston, Texas to close. The federal government alleges that the location is a source of intellectual espionage. A press release from the State Department said that the action had to be taken “in order to protect American intellectual property” and the “private information” of U.S. citizens.

The statement went on to state that China was in violation of the Vienna Convention, which states that diplomats must “respect the laws and regulations of the receiving state” and ”have a duty not to interfere in the internal affairs of that state.” China’s foreign ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin called the action an “outrageous and unjustified move that will sabotage relations between the two countries.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • That God would lead the State Department to build a strong relationship with the nation’s allies.
  • For the Lord to lead Secretary Pompeo on how best to handle this diplomatic situation.
  • That China and the U.S. would come to a peaceful solution to the areas of disagreement.
